An introductory course where you learn as you paddle. This course begins at the wide open, rustic Pinehurst Lake surrounded by towering cedars, lilly pad marshes and mythically large turtles. It is a perfect spot to get accustomed to different paddling techniques without a river current. Your instructor will teach safety and let you practice all the basic steering strokes.

We will then shuttle you upstream to the hamlet of Glen Morris where you will begin your 11:30 AM paddle down a corridor of the Grand River with epic views and cascading river banks. This is a very scenic section of the Grand with no signs of civilization until the end of the trip above the Paris Dam. Your instructor will show you how to read the river as well as how to spot rocks before you’re on top of them. You will also learn how to maneuver a canoe using such techniques as the "J" stroke and the "C" stroke, as well as drawing and prying.

When done this course, you will be able to paddle with confidence on gentle rivers. It may also pique your interest in the more daring fast water course!
